1:1 Gundam RX-78.2 replica in Shiokaze |
INTRO
Okay, that's a real thing. A 60 ft tall and 47 metric-ton robot. And it's being maintenanced by a man on top of its shoulder.
In, 2012 Japan Politician came up with an Idea of building a fully working gundam. And back in the past years, it estimated it would cost $725.000.000 for electronic parts and materials. Well it's just for the material, they also need a insane ammount of money for the labor cost. Not forget the development cost
So, why build one? It really is a good question.
1. Korean Invasion
Since the "invasion" of Korean electronic device, the sales rate of Japanese-base electronic device have been continuing the free-fall drop. So in order to save the economy itself, Japan as a proud country that is proud of its own creativity and tradtition, needs whatever they had and develop them even further to be able to save the Economy. That's where the Gundam came in. it predicted to be the most huge electronic revolution in this era and surely will help the reincarnation of Japan Electronic Industry
2. Self-Defense in Drone Age
A drone being Maintenance by technician, will you look at the size of it |
Its not a secret anymore that this world, specially the countries with a large number of heavy arms will eventually develop a drone (which is a weapon driven by a robot) to be fully launch in order to eliminate a threat. So based on that fact, Japan ministry needs to develop something to counter the possibilites of being targeted by those drone. That's where the Gundam will come in handy.
Gundam was originally developed/illustrated as a self-defense armaments to counter a threat. It's humanoid design can adapt to a numerous number of weapons and giving it a flexibility to move and work in every environment if it given an additional equipment.
Yet, because of its humanoid-design. It will surely help in the counter-measure of disaster that may happen in the future

THE BUILDS
The Gundam is being maintenance (its juts the replica though) |
Okay, this is the most interesting things is how its build, made or where are the parts is placed. Well the notice able things is, it will defintely used large ammount of relays, controls, robot arms and hydraulic system. Well basically it maybe the same like Robot Arms that we studied in some subject, but the scale for this is deifinitely larger. The gundam itself will consist of several parts:
1. Skeleton Build / Frame Build
Back Side of the Frame |
Front Side of the frame |
A big structure like this guys need something to support and protect all of its components. So this where the frame do a major job. It act as a base for every components that may be put in the Gundam. The Articulation of the frame is also an important things. It needs to have good articulation for a good movement of a finish gundam, but also need a limited articulation so the components doesn't get pinched in the way
2. The Upper Body Unit
Upper Body (pic1.1) |
Upper Body Opening (pic1.2) |
The upper body unit consits of Torso and Head unit. In the Head Unit, there are the main sensor will be placed like Camera, heat sensor and movement sensor. The Head itself will be function as the main antena unit (you already know what antenna used for right?)
The Torso unit is the most complex part of all. Why? Because its place for the cockpit, hydraulic control, relay, counter, and Energy Unit
Oh yeah, the Energy unit. Even now there is a discussion about what kind of energy it will consume. Because surely it will consume a huge amount of Energy. Some said it will be powered by an Battery that rechargeable but also serve as a limited source thus creating a limited operation time. Some also said it will be efficient if its powered by nuclear reactor for limiltless power source (wow).
3. The Arm + Leg Unit
Hand Unit |
Leg Unit |
The hand and leg unit is actually a like huge but fast excavator. Its actually consist of a huge hydraulic system (the golden part in elbowand knee ). And 10-15 smaller hydraulic for the hand. All of them are electricity controlled and also connected to the relays
So why hydraulic? Because if it designed well, hydraulic will consume lesser electricity and give more output than motor driven movement
FINISHING
Although there has been no new respond from Japan regarding the development of Gundam but the concept of building one has been release to the world. The Japanese also already building a replica of a gundam in huge scale, so it can concluded that they have the source to build one.
So maybe the reason is to wait further to analyze the development of Korean Electric company and pick the right time to develop it
And the last, this Gudam thing maybe become the last effor for japan to save their electricity business because this huge robot not only act as counter-measure of everything but its also will act as a product develop by Japan that maybe will be sold in other Country.
