In this video, we add vertical milling capabilities to a home-built lathe, which was also built mostly from materials from a local industrial scrap yard. While the design isn't particularly simple, given its compact size, we think it performs quite well. Powered by a 500W DC motor with a custom-built speed controller, the milling head is aligned with the center spindle of the chuck and can move both vertically and horizontally for slotting. We learned a lot about milling in this video, and quickly became familiar with some of the milling techniques.
