Here is another quick video of a hydraulic manual override changing position of a large scotch yoke actuator (ROTEX DRS). The purpose of the manual override is to give operators the ability to override the spring position of the actuator by manually pumping air into the cylinder. An hydraulic pump is used to force air (up to 2000 PSI) in the spring-side of the actuator, thereby compressing it manually.
Directional hand valves are used to vent and divert the air to and from the actuator. The stainless steel hydraulic oil reservoir has twice the capacity required for safety, and all tubing between actuator and override is stainless steel as well.
