Like this, the ranking and merit list will be prepared on overall ranking and community based ranking for all those whoever applied for Engineering Admission. The first cut-off mark 200/200 will be considered, based on this above factors & overall state ranking will be prepared in descending order.

Before the announcement TNEA ranking 2012, Anna University, Chennai will release will give Random number for all the students whoever applied for Admission. It's nothing but system auto generated number. This might be the 10 digit number. This will be considered as the 5th category on the TNEA ranking.
