The Project
This project is about the development of an alternative pointing device which aims to replace or compliment the computer mouse in situations where it gives an advantage over other mouse alternatives. The solution device has been successfully developed and the final device it is believed that gives some advantages to the user such as the ability to navigate through screen without moving the hand to far away from keyboard when typing, or the ability to carry the device without holding anything since it is attached on the wrist. More about the device and its advantages will be discussed in later chapters where it is appropriate. The device has been named “Gyrist” from the combination of the words Gyroscopeand Wrist. The reason for that is because the device uses gyroscopic technology (however, it is combined with accelerometer data) and it is attached on the wrist. Hence gy from gyroscope and ristfrom wrist give birth to “Gyrist”.
