CUTTING EDGE ENGINEERING AUSTRALIA PTY LTD
A severely damaged cylinder core from a 120-ton Komatsu mining truck was in the shop. The piston was stuck and the threads were in poor condition. Rather than throw it away, we decided to see if it could be repaired! The first step was to install it on the lathe, switch to a four-jaw chuck, and straighten everything. Once we had a stable support, we started to machine the piston. However, we encountered some hard points from the heat that rapidly corroded the insert. Once past the difficult point, the threads were exposed, and fortunately, they weren't completely damaged. Then it was time for the tricky part: threading the lathe with precision and coordination. After cleaning the threads and removing the damaged piston, we finally used our prefabricated column grinder to polish the core and restore the surface. This was a true test of precision and patience, but the results were good once everything was in place.
